Various schedules  – recommended for puppies! 

“Puppy Socialization Class“, HSSV, Milpitas. Have a new puppy? Looking for puppy socials with a little bit more? This 3-week course offers all the fun and social learning of puppy socials, PLUS: Transform your puppy-gator into a nice, sweet puppy by learning bite inhibition; Reduce leash reactivity by teaching your pup to tolerate other puppies playing; Enjoy safer play dates and outings with your pup by learning appropriate dog-dog play; Bomb-proof your pup to neighborhood distractions with environmental enrichment; Have better control of your pup by teaching them to come away from play; BE the most fun to your pup! Puppies must be 8-18 weeks old on the first day of class. Your puppy must be 10 days past their initial vaccination for DHPP on the first day of class. You will be required to provide proof of vaccination. This is not an alternative to puppy training classes; basic training behaviors will not be covered. “PHS Puppy Playgroup,” 6:15-7:15pm, Center for Compassion, 1450 Rollins Rd., Burlingame. A class for pups under 6 months who very much need socialization to build a good foundation for the future. Class provides off-leash, supervised playtime to teach puppies how to play with other dogs. Pups need not, but can be enrolled in either Puppy Preschool or Puppy Kindergarten at the same time as this class. Drop-ins welcome, but please arrive 10 minutes early to register. “P.E.T.S. (Puppy Environmental Training Socials)”, 4:15pm – Level 1 – shy/small active (generally puppies under 30lbs); 5pm – Level 2 Beginner (not-shy puppies over 30lbs); 5:45pm – Kinder (invite only); 6:30pm – Teen (invite only); 7:15pm – Big and brave (invite only); Pet Food Express, 1902 S. Bascom Ave., Campbell. During this 40-minute puppy social, your puppy will be exposed to new and different puppies, people, sights, sounds, and surfaces under the supervision of a professional dog trainer. This is a great place for your puppy to build its confidence! You will be encouraged to work with your puppy, and our trainer will guide you and explain the canine behaviors and communication you’re seeing. You will be able to take the skills you learn and apply them at home and in other situations outside of puppy socials.  ALL first-time puppies must attend a Level 1 Social – no exceptions! “Peninsula Humane Society Puppy Playgroup” 4:30-5m, Tom and Anette Lantos Center for Compassion, 1450 Rollins Rd. Burlingame. Puppy Playgroup is each Saturday from 9:30-10am, for puppies 2 to 4 months of age at the time of class. This class will provide owners the opportunity to learn what appropriate play is through supervised off-leash playtime. The class will help your puppy learn to play appropriately with other dogs through the use of management by the trainer. Whether a puppy is safe to participate in playgroup is at the discretion of the trainer. Proof of vaccination (at least one round of DHPP) is required to attend. “Paco Puppy Socials,” 5-6pm, 2905 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley. What is a puppy social? It’s a great way to get your puppy acclimated to other dogs, humans, surfaces, handling, enrichment stations, as well as incredibly valuable advice from dog professionals. Every Wednesday 5-6 beginning Sept 27. Puppies 10-16 weeks welcome to attend (younger puppies on a case-by-case basis). $20 per session (Venmo, PayPal, cash). During this one-hour puppy social your puppy will be exposed to multiple new and different sights, sounds and surfaces. All first-timers must attend a Level 1 session — no exceptions. This is a safe place where your puppy can build its confidence in approaching new and unfamiliar situations.  Your puppy will be able to socialized with other puppies and will be able to refine their play skills, their social skills and bite inhibition. Requirements: Your puppy must be under 18 weeks of age or currently enrolled in Puppy 1 class when they attend their first social, then they can continue to come as long as they remain friendly and social. In this “Day Camp” for pups, your puppy will get light training, play and positive associations with new people, sounds, sights and objects. One who knows how to get on with her fellow four-legged compatriots, plays politely and is always welcome around other dogs. Join us for trainer-supervised play and learning. Your puppy learns to communicate with other dogs, and you learn what your puppy is telling you. These single-day events are held in the Marin Humane Parks. You and your dog will learn how to play with other dogs, how to interact with new environmental objects, and how to play with YOU. At least 2 sets of distemper/parvo shots are required (please confirm before signing up!) Please only sign up for one Puppies in the Park class per day. Each class is 45 minutes long for $25.  Classes will be held for mild weather (sprinkles for example).  When available, classes will be moved indoors for more severe weather.  Your instructor will email the morning of the class to indicate the status of the class! Take advantage of this opportunity to introduce your pup to other puppies and watch them romp around and play! These play groups will be supervised by a professional dog trainer. Teri Aslett with Legendary Teri’s Dog Training & Pet Care is ready to make sure your pup has a good experience making new friends. While your puppy is playing, you can pick up useful potty training tips and get some answers to many other training questions. You will be given a handout containing valuable information about the critical periods in a puppies life and how much of an impact they make on the way your pup will behave as an adult. Our socials are supervised by certified professional trainers. We emphasize appropriate play and reinforce behaviors we want to encourage. Socials provide a wonderful opportunity for puppies to learn skills, improve confidence and help set them up for positive interactions in the real world. “Older Puppy Socialization” HSSV Training Room, 901 Ames, Milpitas. Humane Society Silicon Valley presents Older Puppy Socialization class. This is for pups 8-18 months of age who have previously aged-out of puppy socialization or other puppy socials. This is a 3-week course. More than just puppy play time, we’ll also be addressing getting pups’ attention in distracting settings and the challenges of adolescence. Prerequisites are either completion of our Puppy Socialization, or a reference from a dog professional overseeing puppy socials, doggy daycare, or cage-free boarding (where dogs play together). “Marin Humane Society seeks foster homes for animals in need – Take good care of our babies! The Marin Humane Society is currently looking for foster care volunteers who can “take good care of our babies” until they are ready to enter the MHS adoption program. Foster homes offer a temporary environment for animals to work on behavior issues or rehabilitate after injury or illness, and provide a safe place for kittens and puppies to grow. On average, more than 30% of adoption animals at MHS benefit from time in a foster home. Fostering is a wonderful way to experience the joy of caring for a companion animal without making a long-term commitment. Volunteers bear no out-of-pocket expenses. The Marin Humane Society furnishes all necessary supplies and provides routine and emergency veterinary care; foster parents supply the love. The Marin Humane Society is in need of a several types of foster homes, including: Behavior fosters – Behavior foster homes afford dogs the opportunity to get beyond a particular issue that would otherwise make it difficult for them to be adopted. Medical fosters – Medical foster homes are crucial for giving animals the time they need to heal away from the stress of a kennel. Dog agility is a series of obstacles, such as jumps and tunnels, made into a course that the dogs work through. This form of dog play can be purely for fun or serious competition. There will be no training on Thanksgiving weekend and/or if it rains. “Paws on the Monument,” 9:00 AM, Fort Ord National Monument. Join BirchBark Foundation and the Bureau of Land Management for a community dog walk on the Fort Ord National Monument. Park Ranger, Tammy Jakl will be on hand occasionally to answer questions and walk with us. We will meet at the Creekside Terrace Trailhead (just off Highway 68 near the intersection of Portola and Reservation Road).  The walk will loop through Fort Ord’s north-eastern border and there will be a 1, 2 or 3 mile option.  Mark your Calendars: July 1st, August 5th, September 2nd, October 7th. The first 20 walkers will receive their choice of a BirchBark Foundation portable pet food dish or BirchBark bandana for your pooch.  Don’t forget to start your WoofTrax when you walk! “Dog Hikes around Bay Area,” various dates, times and locations, mostly in the East Bay. We are a fun group of hikers with dogs that love to enjoy both passions at the same time. Grab your furry roommate and join us as we sniff out hound friendly trails, preferably off leash, throughout the Bay Area. Most of our hikes are in the East Bay, and are fairly easy. All dog lovers are welcome, even those who have the misfortune of living without pup at the moment. Your dog should be well-behaved, though you need not be. Some hikes are an easy stroll and others will send your heart monitor into the red zone. Hikers should be certain their fitness and the condition of their dog match the hike they sign up for. Our hikes will be kept small in nature. That policy is based on safety as much as park impact. We understand dog hiking involves slobber, poop bags, dusty or muddy pants, and the occasional skunk spray. Hikers should be both responsible with their pets and good humored in regards to the “pack” of the day. Grab your dog, come out and join us.
